Ethiopia: Civil Unrest

On 22 June 2019, Ethiopia experienced two incidents of political violence, with the assassinations of the Amhara regional president in Bahir Dar (325km NNW of Addis Ababa) and the Ethiopian Defence Force Chief of General Staff in Addis Ababa, along with three other officials.  There is a heightened presence of police and security forces throughout the country, and the Ethiopian Government has shut down internet (including mobile internet) and SMS/text messaging services.
